Alternatives to Vacuuming

Perhaps you are looking for an energy-saving alternative to vacuuming the carpets every week, or maybe you just don’t want to buy an expensive vacuum. Here are some alternatives for carpeting cleaning when you don’t want to use a vacuum.

  • Rubber-bristle brooms and a dustpan. This can pick up a lot of dirt and hairs and get them out of your carpeting.
  • Carpet sweeper. This mechanical device has been around since the 1880s, and you don’t have to plug it in. It’s best for light cleaning.
  • Large, sticky-tape rollers. These work just like a lint roller, but they make larger versions for rugs, carpeting, and furniture.
  • Beat area rugs. If you need to clean an area rug, just take it outside and beat the dirt, dust and hairs out of it.

If you’re going to opt out of vacuuming, make sure to get your carpet cleaned professionally on a regular basis so you can make sure it gets cleaned deeply.
